STRIKE OUT CANCER and HIT IT HARD was a new cancer event that was conducted by the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association.  It was also recognized through the OHSAA as STRIKE OUT CANCER and HIT IT HARD. STRIKE OUT CANCER and HIT IT HARD was created in 2007 by the O.H.S.F.S.C.A. as a way to honor and celebrate the heroic fights against cancer by friends and families.  High School softball programs throughout the state were challenged to dedicate one home softball game to promote cancer education and awareness.  Each team’s goal was to raise money toward a cancer foundation of their choice.  Teams were encouraged to use the STRIKE OUT CANCER and HIT IT HARD donation sheets to help with raising money for your cause.  Teams were also allowed to do other forms of fundraising to raise money for their cause.  Examples might have included a raffle, shirt sales, pass a helmet around at the game, honor local cancer survivors etc.  STRIKE OUT CANCER and HIT IT HARD was created by Charles Tackett, Varsity Softball Coach at Tippecanoe High School-Tipp City, Ohio, as a well to honor his mother (Carol) who has been battling breast cancer for the past six years.  The STRIKE OUT CANCER and HIT IT HARD logo that players through out the state were wearing was designed by Shelby Stewart, 2006 Newton High School Grad, Pleasant Hill, Ohio. Shelby, who is currently attending the University of Toledo, lost her mother to breast cancer 9 years ago.  With the help of the following junior high, junior varsity, varsity and college teams they were able to raise $25,025.50 toward cancer awareness.
